Michael J. Soules

Hello! I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Houston.

​

I earned my Ph.D. in Political Science from Penn State University in May of 2022. I was a Donald R. Beall Defense Fellow in the Naval Postgraduate School’s Defense Analysis Department for the 2022 - 2023 academic year.

​

My research focuses on terrorism, civil war, rebel group recruitment processes, and women’s participation in political violence. 

​

My research has appeared or is forthcoming in International Studies Quarterly; Journal of Conflict Resolution; Security Studies; International Interactions; Conflict Management and Peace Science; PS: Political Science and Politics; Terrorism and Political Violence; and Studies in Conflict and Terrorism.
